Combining Community Arts + Yoga

Together with Ray Mahabir of Sunshine International Arts, I established Yoga at Sunshine in March 2014. Built on the foundation that yoga in the city should be accessible and sustainable for all, classes run at S.I.A's community C.A.F.E (Carnival Arts for Everyone); a charity supported by Arts Council England. This wonderful creative space enables us to keep yoga classes affordable whilst supporting local arts, and nurturing the gathering and growth of a community spirit in Loughborough Junction.

Yoga at Sunshine’s weekly classes are facilitated by a group of south-east London teachers. Classes are all open level vinyasa flow and incorporate traditional teachings of yoga; pranayama (breathing techniques), asana (physical postures), and meditation. On a physical level, strength, suppleness and balance of body are created as physical tensions are eased. On a subtle level, space and stillness is created within, easing emotional stress and calming overactive minds. The space also welcomes guest teachers offering one off workshops to develop your practice, and courses for beginners.

Supporting the Arts through Yoga:

In addition to nourishing body and mind, by coming to yoga classes at Yoga at Sunshine, a percentage of your payment goes towards supporting this carnival and community arts charity. In 2018 through everyone’s attendance at yoga classes with Claire, Ali and Nicola have contributed £3,240 to Sunshine International Arts - enabling a community and carnival arts charity to reach more people, to create with the community, and to thrive in a time when the arts are so needed but so in threat.

Yoga @ Sunshine Instructors : Claire Horton (200 RYT & RYTP) and Beckie Eisner (200 RYT) are both south London yoga teachers, and collectively have trained in a variety of yoga practices from Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Hot Yoga, Prenatal and Well Woman Yoga Therapy.
