About Claire

And so the story goes…

A yoga practitioner of 15 years, Claire initially trained in Ashtanga Vinyasa. She continued to study further with Ryan Spielman and David Swenson whilst assisting ashtanga Elder, Jess Glenny, for three years. As her practice evolved, Claire developed an interest in intuitive movement practices and yoga for women’s wellbeing. She furthered her knowledge with Prenatal Yoga training, and studied Well Woman Yoga Therapy with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli (Author of Yoni Shakti). The ancient scriptures and Vedic texts have always held a special significance and source of inspiration to Claire, who travels regularly to South East Asia to immerse herself in history, storytelling, myth and ritual. She is currently undergoing advanced training with Gary Carter in yoga anatomy, form and function.

Claire believes that yoga and creative practices are intrinsically linked. She believes they evolve with all stages of life to facilitate a life-long investigation of the human experience; our connections to our environment and to one another. Initially trained in Painting at Camberwell College of Arts, Claire has been working for over 10 years in arts production and management within theatre, carnival and outdoor arts organisations and, later, with Arts Council England. She has a particular love for carnival, circus, community and participatory arts, and currently works for Upswing – a charity that creates aerial circus performances that tell stories of human connection and experience in extraordinary ways.

In March 2014 Claire established Yoga at Sunshine at Sunshine International Arts (Loughborough Junction) - a partnership that nurtured the growth of a small community centered yoga space in the heart of arts and creativity. In 2017 she established the Creative Birth Programme, in partnership with Labyrinth Yoga and Pilates and Artist and Community Midwife Laura Godfrey-Issacs, to support pregnant women through a programme of workshops encompassing yoga, movement and artist-led creative sessions.
