support your journey to motherhood, from conception to birth, with yoga and meditation practices.
supporting your journey to motherhood.
In 2015 I completed my training in pre natal yoga with Brahmani Yoga, under the watchful guidance of Joanne Smallwood (E-RYT 200, RPYT), and Midwife and founder of the Goa Birthing Centre, Corinne Stahlhofen.
I currently offer private prenatal classes in the south east London area. These sessions, although based around the physical asanas (postures), are also focussed on breathing techniques (pranayama), sound breathing, visualisation, mantra and deep relaxation. The aim is not only to reduce muscular tensions that may build, and prepare the body for labour, but to create a calm space where a mother-to-be can connect with her baby and her body; preparing her mentally, physically, and spiritually for the journey ahead.
"My third trimester was unfortunately quite uncomfortable due to SPD (a pelvic disorder) but Claire was able to help me find sweet relief with very tailored yoga sequences. Every week she adjusted the private class to suit whatever I needed addressing most. It was so lovely exploring the yogic holistic approach to pregnancy with Claire as she ended each class with specific meditations, mantras, and chants for me to use in labour. It was a highlight of my last trimester for sure."
Many women find that they attend their very first yoga class during their pregnancy. During this time a woman becomes aware that she may have to let go and cooperate with her body in a way that she never has before. In addition, she may find that during this time, more so than ever, she needs to find a way to calm her questionning, chattering and somtimes doubtful mind. Yogic practices can provide the space required to reconnect a mother-to-be with her body, and enable her to grow the trust that her body's ancient wisdom knows what to do.
